A virus has escaped in a secret facility called "The Hive," turning the staff into hungry zombies and releasing the mutated Lab "Animals" that they were studying. The complex computer shuts down the base to prevent infection. The parent corporation sends in an elite military unit, where they meet Alice, who is suffering from amnesia due to exposure to nerve gas. The military team must shut down the computer and get out, fighting their way past zombies, mutants, and the computer itself, before the virus escapes and infects the rest of the world. Alice must also come to terms with her slowly-returning memories.

The nightmare isn't over, General Cain ordered The Hive to be reopened, and in doing so contaminated all of Raccoon City, a city of the dead, with Alice stuck right in the middle. Now, along with other surviors, Jill Valentine, Carlos Oliviera and his Captain, Nicholai, they must fight to survive, to escape the nightmare that has plaqed Raccoon City. Despite the nuclear destruction of Raccoon City, the T Virus has escaped containment. Unable to be contained by the Umbrella Corporation, the virus quickly spreads across the world, drying up the lakes, rivers, and continents while infecting the human population and spreading to other species. Five years later, the vast majority of the Earth is a post apocalyptic wasteland crawling with zombies and mutated animals, and humanity is on the verge of extinction. The Umbrella Corporation appears to be the only human authority left, its remnants forced to live underground in Hive like constructs around the world.[/center]

The film begins with Alice (Milla Jovovich) recalling the key events from the first film. On September 29, 2002, thirteen hours after the initial T Virus outbreak in The Hive, the Umbrella Corporation sends in a research team to re open the complex. As the team enters The Hive through a secret insertion point beneath Raccoon City, the entire team is slaughtered by zombies and Lickers who have been sealed within the complex. Realizing the entrance is now open, and the virus and infectious zombies will make their way to the surface, Umbrella establishes a security perimeter around the city to keep the citizens in a quarantined area.[/center]

The film begins in The Hive, a top secret genetic research facility owned by the Umbrella Corporation located deep beneath Raccoon City. A technician loads vials of blue and green liquid into a secured case, then tosses one blue vial onto the floor inside a lab, exits and seals the room. The vial breaks and the facility s security system, the Red Queen, detects possible infection, and in response, seals the Hive and kills everyone inside.[/center]
