The story of Allen and Grace Brewer (Pierce Brosnan and Susan Sarandon), a couple grieving after the death of their older son Bennett (Aaron Johnson) in a car crash. When a woman, Rose (Carey Mulligan), contacts them and reveals she is pregnant with Bennetts child, the Brewers invite her to stay in their home. At first, Roses presence threatens to tear the family even further apart, but her interaction with each of the Brewers proves to be the very thing that brings them back together.
