The second programme in the series about Churchill s army of elite irregulars tells the story of the greatest commando raid of the Second World War. The attack on St Nazaire in France the biggest dry dock in Europe was the ultimate in suicide raids, a dramatic high-risk piece of brazen daring. It was to be the most spectacularly successful of the Second World War commando operations. The tale of this extraordinary mission for which five Victoria Crosses were awarded is recalled by commandos who sailed up the Loire that night, successfully blew up the dry dock, and then attempted to fight their way home. The programme contains footage of veterans on location and original archive film of their capture.
