Biography

J.A. Coleman was born in Oxfordshire in 1920. He entered local government at the age of 17, joined the Grenadier Guards in 1940, and, after six and a hald years' war service, returned to his former employment. He qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1951, married in the same year, and became Engineer and Surveyor to the former Cannock Rural District Council in Staffordshire, leaving in 1974 to start his own architectural and planning practice from which he finally retired in 1986. He now devotes his time to "playing with words," and is the author of The Complete Guide to Cryptic Crosswords and several other books on the same subject.
