When the gang has lost their patience with Snoopys pranks, they pressure Charlie Brown to act. He decides to send Snoopy back to his puppy farm for obedience training, but Snoopy is less than enthusiastic. He retaliates by going only as far as Peppermint Pattys place who agrees to let him stay for the night. He overstays his welcome as a freeloader which forces Charlie Brown to drag him back home with a firm hand and lease. Snoopy responds by running away for real back to Peppermint Pattys, but he learns that his return visit will be far less pleasant this time...

I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown! centers on ReRun, the lovable but ever-skeptical younger brother of Linus and Lucy. Its Christmas vacation and, as usual, ReRuns big sister is stressing him out, so he decides to turn to his best friend, Snoopy, for amusement and holiday cheer. However his faithful but unpredictable beagle companion has plans of his own, giving ReRun reason to ask Snoopy to invite his canine brother Spike for a visit. When Spike shows up, it looks like ReRun will have a dog for Christmas after all... but then the real trouble begins.

Linus is pushed to his limits when he learns grandma is coming to visit and plans on ridding him of his childish security blanket. As grandmas arrival looms closer the Peanuts gang tries to help Linus learn to cope without his fuzzy crutch. Lucy is particular eager to cure Linus dependency using her own psychiatric techniques, and while Charlie Brown tries to help he just doesnt have the heart to see Linus suffer. All the while Snoopy is constantly agitating matters because he wants the blanket for himself. In the end, insightful Linus points out that everyone has their own type of security blanket and in life a little security is a valuable thing.
